The second round of the U.S. Open is Friday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in the Hamptons, which means Tiger Woods is playing another day in a major championship.
Tiger Woods needs a big Friday to make the U.S. Open cut. Here’s how to watch.
Woods starts his Friday with some early, stream-only holes.

Woods tees off at 8:02 a.m. ET in a group with Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas. The tournament won’t be on TV until 10 a.m. ET on FS1, but you should be able to stream most of Woods’ round prior to that point on the U.S. Open’s official website and the U.S. Open app. FOX Sports GO will stream a simulcast of the TV broadcast once it begins.
Woods’ tee time on Thursday was 1:47 p.m. ET, which was prime “sneak a peek at Woods’ round while you’re killing time in the afternoon at work” territory. His Friday time is a little trickier for people who want to watch him at work on the East Coast. It starts during usual commuting time. But if you’re angling to watch him, the internet will still allow it.
On Thursday, Woods was extremely bad. He carded an 8-over-par 78, tying him for 102nd place. He needs to get into the top 60 plus ties to even make it to the weekend. Woods was 4 over after his first two holes, and after stabilizing for a while — he was still plus-4 after 12 holes — he shot back-to-back double-bogey 6s at the 13th and 14th. He hit a slightly below-average nine of 14 fairways and struggled badly with his approach shots. He made just one birdie. Johnson, his playing partner, finished 1-under in a four-way tie for the lead.
Woods is playing in his first U.S. Open since 2015, which barely even counts as a U.S. Open appearance, because he was injured and nothing approximating himself. He hasn’t made a cut in a U.S. Open since 2003, and he hasn’t won this event or any other major since that dramatic 2008 playoff victory against Rocco Mediate. This wouldn’t be a bad time to end a drought, but if it’s going to happen at Shinnecock, Woods needs a really strong Friday and then a similarly incredible Saturday and Sunday. It’s not a thing to expect at this point.
