Tiger Woods is in the hunt in what will be the final round of the final edition of his DC event.

The Quicken Loans National has receded in stature over the years. When it first started in 2007, it was hyped as an anchor of the midsummer schedule on the PGA Tour. Tiger was at the peak of his powers and his marketability was never greater. His top peers would come patronize the event, he’d get his pick of venues, and the sponsors would line up and outbid each other for an association with the game’s greatest draw at what was going to be one of the bigger events on the PGA Tour schedule.

For several years, the event achieved that goal. But it’s slowly sputtered out and hit a wall in recent years with Tiger on the shelf injured so much. The sponsors ran away and hid and now we’re left with what is almost certainly the final round of the final “National” in the DC area. Quicken Loans is putting their sponsor dollars behind a new event in the Detroit area, their hometown. The schedule is due out any day now and, well, The National has no sponsor for next year and no definitive venue. Barring a dramatic late Hail Mary, it’s not going to be on that schedule when it’s released. So this is it.

The good news is that Tiger is back, playing in and hosting his own party for the first time since 2015. And he’s got a late Sunday tee time to whip up the crowds in this oppressive DC heat and the viewers much more comfortably situated at home watching on TV. That he’s even playing in the TV window and late in the day is a little victory for this struggling event. We at least get to see the inspiration and reason for why this thing has existed close it out on its final Sunday.

Jim Nantz and Ian Baker-Finch will have the call for CBS at the finish line, which should happen right around 6 p.m. ET. Golf Channel will have their usual early-round coverage for the start of Tiger’s round, which begins at 1:20 p.m. ET on the first tee. If you’re looking to stream and toggle between World Cup and the many other fantastic golf events, there will be simulcast streams up and running throughout the afternoon.
