Rain might be a problem on Friday at The Open. Here’s how to watch a messy day at Carnoustie.

We’re going to start the morning a bit wet at Carnoustie, but here’s how to follow the groups through the wee hours of the morning here in North America.

We’re through one day at the Open Championship, and it’s hard to know exactly what to make of Carnoustie’s baked-out conditions

Kevin Kisner takes a one-shot lead over Erik Van Rooyen and Tony Finau into round two of golf’s eldest major championship — but don’t worry, the big stars aren’t far off the pace. 49 players are within 5 shots of Kisner’s 5-under lead, including one Tiger Woods. Big Cat finished Thursday at level-par 71, but a disappointing closing stretch left us wondering what could’ve been. A bounce here, a drop there — and we might be looking at the feline right with that pairing of Rooyen and Finau. Plenty of others are in the thick of things after day one, too: Rory, Jon Rahm, and Justin Thomas are all at 2-under, just three back of the lead.

That should all set up for a fun Friday, well, if the draw doesn’t get in the way. Rain looks to be in the forecast for the morning wave — with rain chances peaking at around 95% at 7am — and holding to above 50% through the 11am hour. That’s particularly bad news for guys like Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, who could end up playing their entire round in steady rain. Tiger might get a bit lucky for his side of the morning draw — a late 10:20 local time (5:20 ET) might leave him in the rain for only a couple of holes off the front, if he’s lucky.

In the best shape of the draw if you’re picking a weekend leader? It might be Tony Finau. A late, late Friday tee time should have him playing on a overcast-but-not-wet, slightly more supple golf course. Keep an eye on that today.
