If you’ve spent the last two workdays ignoring all your obligations to watch the Open Championship, well ... now you can ignore your friend, family, and home obligations on the weekend. The season’s third men’s major tees off almost three hours later than the last two marathon days, but it’s still an early wake-up call and a great way to watch nothing but golf until deep into the afternoon in the States.

Saturday’s coverage, and streaming, will start at 4:30 a.m. ET. That’s a nice break after a 1:30 a.m. start the last two days. It’s also just 15 minutes after the first tee time so if you want to watch the full third round, you’re going to get that chance between Golf Channel and NBC. There’s really no golf happening outside of the coverage window at this major championship.

This is the first time NBC will officially join the party, although most of their talent and production have been sprinkled in and doing a lot of the lifting on Golf Channel the first two rounds. Now it just switches over the big network for the conclusion of both the third and fourth rounds. Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller will have their usual call in the lead chairs.

Embrace the “baked out” life of The Open

If you’re unable to watch on TV, or do not have cable, there will be multiple streaming options throughout the third round. The simulcast stream will require a cable account login but three others will not. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are scheduled to tee off just after 8 a.m. ET, so expect to see most of their shots on NBC, which will be live for their entire rounds.

Saturday at the Open may truly be the a “moving day.” The forecasts are calling for intensified winds on Sunday, which could create carnage and little-to-no ability to make a big final round charge. The R&A probably won’t set it up to be gettable or easy, but they don’t care about protecting par and will give the players some chances to post a low number. Paul Lawrie, who won here in 1999, made the cut and was a good nine shots back. That win required a historic final hole collapse from Jean van De Velde, but the point is no one is truly out of it with 36 more to play.
