PGA Tour, LIV Golf quickly see viral ‘hawk tuah’ meme plague tournaments

Golf fans at both the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf Nashville events have used their fill of the ‘hawk tuah’ sound.

Professional golf fans have all heard ‘mashed potatoes,’ ‘get in the hole’ and other things while they watched or attended a PGA Tour event. Now that LIV Golf is around, they also see people yell crazy things after impact.

Most recently, these fans have something new to say, ‘hawk tuah.’ If one does not know what ‘hawk tuah’ is, it is a meme that initially surfaced on TikTok and has gone viral in a matter of days.

An onomatopoeia for “spitting,” this meme indeed came out of nowhere.

People are obsessed with the sound. It is everywhere, so of course, it made its way to golf tournaments like the Travelers Championship and LIV Golf Nashville.

The PGA Tour is not the only place people used these viral words. LIV Golf also saw its fair share of people yelling it after Bryson DeChambeau and other players hit the ball.

Some used the joke because it is hard not to when the same words are used repeatedly. Creatively enough, Twitter user Tweeth Mitchell gave Akshay Bhatia a new name.

However, it does not seem ‘hawk tuah’ will last like ‘mashed potatoes’ or ‘bababooyee.’ Many fans and those involved are already over the new jargon.

Twitter user Cam Irons volunteers as a tribute to get rid of all the people who use ‘hawk tuah’ at golf tournaments.

Hopefully, ‘Hawk tuah’ will not stick around the professional golf world. While it is a funny sound and meme, there are times and places to use it—a golf tournament, LIV, or PGA Tour, is not one of them.
