Welcome to Playing Through’s daily ritual — Golf Talk Today.

Each day, the crew will discuss various elements of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf, and more.

This week is massive for professional golf. The LPGA has its final major of the season, and the PGA Tour is in the middle of its FedEx Cup playoffs.

Both Tours have challenges this week. The AIG Women’s Open at St. Andrews has 40 mph winds, while the BMW Championship has PGA Tour players at Castle Pines Golf Club in high altitude.

It is another full day of golf, and I’m excited to share some of my favorite quotes from Round 1 of the BMW Championship and Women’s Open.

Nelly Korda and Georgia Hall, among the most colorful Women’s Opens quotes

“This is my favorite place, like ever. I prefer here than home.”

Georgia Hall on The Home of Golf.

“Yeah, amazing. I play this course in individual games a lot. It’s quite different playing in person. I enjoy it.”

— Ruoning Yin on St. Andrews.

“That was tough. My head is pounding. Usually, the greens are faster, so the ball is rolling off the greens. I’ve never had to back off so many putts. I’m standing and losing balance. It’s memorable.”

Rose Zhang on her memorable Round 1.

“There’s something fun about playing in these conditions too. Not that I would do it every single time. There’s a different creative side to it, which I enjoy.”

“Derrick and I played basketball against each other starting in the third or fourth grade all the way through high school basketball. We always had mutual respect because we guarded each other and had a lot of mutual friends.”

— Wyndham Clark on how he knows NBA star Derrick White

“There are so many similarities to Muirfield Village, which has Jack Nicklaus’s fingerprints all over it, and so does this place...”

— Adam Scott on Jack Nicklaus’ Castle Pines course.

“Sunday afternoon was one of the toughest afternoons of my PGA TOUR career. It was brutal. It’s such a relief to be here. I felt a lot calmer today... I want to be out there with the guys and the Ryder Cup team — playing with them, on the range, in the locker room, in the tournament. It was important for me to be in this top 50.”

Keegan Bradley on making the Top 50 and why it meant so much to him.

“I went to San Diego State, so it’s the most math I’ve done in a while.”

— Xander Schauffele on calculating shot distances in high altitude.
