Many golf fans had fun online earlier Tuesday, trying to guess what song Tiger Woods would walk out to for his TGL debut match.
Tiger Woods’ TGL debut starts with electric entrance, most predictable entrance song ever
You can probably guess what song blared throughout the SoFi Center as Tiger Woods strutted in for his TGL match.
Jack Milko has been playing golf since he was five years old. He has yet to record a hole-in-one, but he did secure an M.A. in Sports Journalism from St. Bonaventure University.
But there was only one logical choice for the 15-time major winner: “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor.
The Chicago-based band wrote this 1982 hit as the theme song for Rocky III. In this movie, Rocky, portrayed by Sylvester Stallone, faces off in a boxing match against Clubber Lang, played by Mr. T. Rocky, an underdog hero who has become an American icon in cinema, defeated Lang in the third round.
It felt like Woods was entering a boxing ring, too, given that smoke machines blew through the entrance tunnel and strobe lights flashed everywhere. It did not even feel like a golf match, either, yet Woods’ entrance was electric nonetheless.
His son Charlie disagreed with that assessment, though.
The 15-year-old, who went viral for his hole-in-one at last month’s PNC Championship, shared with ESPN’s Marty Smith that his father’s walkout was “awkward.” If Charlie were to give it a score out of 10, he would have given it a “four,” a poor score for what many golf fans thought was an incredible entrance.
Woods and his Jupiter Links Golf team struggled in their debut match, as they faced a 5-0 deficit only five holes in. They went on to lose handily to Los Angeles Golf Club. Considering the drubbing, Charlie likely would have scored his father’s performance in the SoFi Center far worse than what he gave for his entrance.
