PGA Tour fan favorite Joel Dahmen lurking at Farmers Insurance Open

Joel Dahmen is within striking distance for the first time this season.

Jack Milko has been playing golf since he was five years old. He has yet to record a hole-in-one, but he did secure an M.A. in Sports Journalism from St. Bonaventure University.

Torrey Pines South, which has hosted the U.S. Open twice, is not a course that suits Joel Dahmen’s game. And yet, the Netflix Full Swing star finds himself squarely in the mix through 54 holes — a stark departure from how he began his 2025 campaign.

Dahmen arrived in San Diego fresh off a pair of missed cuts at the Sony Open in Hawaii and The American Express, but now he is at 5-under par, sitting in a tie for fourth and four strokes back of leader Harris English.

“I started to hit fairways today, and then my iron play was stellar today, it really was,” Dahmen said.

“I hit a lot of great golf shots. If I can just continue to do that, and the putter heats up, you never know.”

Of the 70 players who made the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, Dahmen ranked second among the field in strokes gained approach during the third round. He put on a ball-striking masterclass en route to a 2-under 70 on Friday.

He was at 6-under for the championship after making a par on the par-5 13th, but back-to-back bogies at 14 and 15 dropped him back to 4-under. The former Washington Husky did salvage those blunders somewhat at the 17th, though, making a 10-footer for a birdie three.

“I was hoping Harris wasn’t going to finish the way he did, give me a little more of a chance tomorrow,” Dahmen added.

“If he plays well tomorrow, no one’s going to catch him. Yeah, I needed to make one coming in and had another decent look on 18. Yeah, that was a nice putt to make on 17.”
