The Players Championship Weather: Sunny skies give way to unpredictable forecast

Things could get dicey over the weekend at The 2025 Players Championship.

Jack Milko has been playing golf since he was five years old. He has yet to record a hole-in-one, but he did secure an M.A. in Sports Journalism from St. Bonaventure University.

Earlier in the week, Northeast Florida received north of three inches of rain, dampening TPC Sawgrass and the surrounding region.

But since that front blew through Ponte Vedra Beach, TPC Sawgrass has seen nothing but sunny skies and gentle breezes. Some fairways and approaches remain damp from Monday’s precipitation, but the greens are as good as gold. That’s because the Sawgrass agronomy team has the luxury of having a SubAir system, which can create whatever green conditions desired. Essentially, every green at Sawgrass has a large fan and irrigation system beneath its surface, allowing AubAiur to heat the greens, dry them out, dampen them, or whatever the weather calls for. The roughly three inches of rain did nothing to slow these greens out thanks to this incredible technology. Augusta National famously employs SubAir for their greens, too, making any precipitation at The Masters only a minor inconvenience.

As for precipitation at this year’s Players Championship, the day with the highest chance of rain is late on Sunday. Until then, temperatures will hover in the low-to-mid 70s with the breeze blowing south and east off the Atlantic. The windiest day will likely be Saturday, with gusts expected to reach up to 30 miles per hour by late afternoon. Final groups beware, especially when they arrive at the 16th, 17th, and 18th holes.

Here is this week’s forecast, prepared by meteorologist Wade Stettner of DTN:
