The first playoff match in TGL history took place on Monday night and it featured the top-seeded Los Angeles Golf Club.

Teams work hard across the regular season in any sport in the name of landing the top overall seed. Just look at the upcoming NCAA Tournament as an example of that.

As far as March Madness is concerned there is only one top seed to ever lose their opening round matchup... it happened in the first ever playoff match in TLG history as Los Angeles fell to New York Golf Club and went out without too much of a fight.

If there was a point where things tilted one direction over the other it was on the short putts. New York took care of business just about all night while LA struggled mightily. Their season officially ended when Tommy Fleetwood missed a putt that we have seen him make many times on the PGA Tour.

New York was accurate inside of 10 feet, making 75% of their attempts. Meanwhile, LA converted only 33% of their opportunities from that same distance. You simply cannot win when you are missing layups to that degree.

NYGC struggled in the early part of the season, but Xander Schauffele’s return helped stabilize things and certainly aided in them reaching the final matchup of the league’s inaugural season. New York will face the winner of the Atlanta Drive and The Bay Golf Club matchup that is set to take place on Tuesday evening. The league’s final will be a best of three series with the first match taking place on Monday, March 24th.

Kudos to New York for getting it done. Maybe Yankees fans can finally rest after the way the last playoff matchup went down between teams from the big apple and la la land.
