Happy Gilmore 2 releases trailer featuring Adam Sandler returning to iconic role

Happy Gilmore is returning to our lives later this summer!

As a principle, I am heavily against any kind of remake or sequel well after the fact. In my personal opinion, the only one that has ever worked out has been Top Gun: Maverick, and that is some pretty elite territory.

Someone tell Tom Cruise that he might have company at the top soon enough in Adam Sandler because on Tuesday morning, Netflix dropped the teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, and it looks amazing.

The teaser trailer offers our first look at Happy in a golf environment after word broke long ago that the film was in progress. Viewers see Happy regarded as a 5-time champion — he clearly had more success after we saw his career first take off in the original movie, but with an itch to return to the game. His biggest challenge seems to be keeping up with the current game’s long hitters. The likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and others are considered would-be competitors for Gilmore to contend with.

Golf has been having quite the moment in the grand scheme of things, with so many more people taking the game up recreationally. There is no question that the original Happy Gilmore is one of the most prominent pop culture points for this beautiful game, so it will be interesting to see the reaction to the sequel.

It premiers only on Netflix on July 25th.
