When Manny Pacquiao enters the ring against Shane Mosley on Saturday night, he’ll do it with Rick Ross by his side. SB Nation’s Bad Left Hook reports that Ross will be there to escort the Philippines’ finest to the ring, and... Any way you cut it, that’s pretty awesome. Why?
Why Manny Pacquiao Teaming Up With Rick Ross Is A Great Idea
Here’s 10 reasons.
1. Because he’s Rick Ross.
2. Because that beard belongs near a boxing ring.
3. Because Floyd Mayweather sided with 50 Cent, so Manny Pacquiao has to answer back with a gangster rapper of his own.
4. Because if rap beefs started playing themselves among big-money boxing, that would be the coolest thing ever. It’s a corollary to no. 3, and really, there’s no good reason for this not to happen.
5. Because there can never be too many entourages at a boxing fight, and if there’s one thing that rappers are GREAT AT, it’s having entourages.
6. Because if you asked him to, Rick Ross would almost certainly agree to stand in the corner and blurt out ad-libs for the entire fight. For instance, when Pacquiao delivers an uppercut to Mosley’s jaw: “BAWSE”. Or when Pacquiao nails Moseley with a jab to the kidneys: “UGH” ... Like, just listen to the edited version of this song. Almost every word is either censored for profanity or a pre-recorded soundbyte dubbed over the track. THIS MAN BELONGS IN BOXING.
7. Because if this catches on, it could lead to Ross looking at boxing as new revenue stream, and next thing you know, the mat of a boxing ring could have Rick Ross’ face on it. Like his chain. Or his pool.
8. Because boxing needs to rebound after inviting Nelly to open the last Pacquiao fight.
9. Because Rick Ross was last seen rolling a blunt while driving to the Miami Heat’s playoff game vs. the Boston Celtics. Clearly, we need more crossover between Rick Ross and sports.
10. Because it’s Rick Ross, and anything he does is automatically kind of awesome. So, Manny Pacquiao, do you want us to think you’re awesome and/or hilarious? Start chillin with Ricky. BOOM.
