Danny Hultzen Is The Future
↵UVA pitcher Danny Hultzen went no. 2 overall to the Seattle Mariners in Monday night’s MLB Draft, going even higher than scouts had initially projected. Wait, why are we talking about the MLB Draft?
↵Because Danny Hultzen went to my high school, and that makes this a proud day, goddamnit. He was a freshman at St. Albans when I was a second semester senior. I’d be lying if I said I remembered a whole lot about the kid, but I have a distinct memory of being a complete burnout at that point in life, and a faint memory of watching Hultzen play as a 15 year-old freshman.
↵I remember watching him dominate and thinking, “This kid’s a prodigy now, huh? The next big thing? Wait till he discovers the joys of weekends and realizes trying just isn’t worth it.”
↵Ahhhh, yes. But it seems some people would rather work their way toward tens of millions of dollars and eternal athletic glory. And at St. Albans and then UVA, Danny Hultzen apparently did exactly that. Now he’s off to do it in Seattle. Congrats, former Bulldog bro!
