Archbishop Carroll’s boys and girls teams won their play-in games Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.
DC Boys Basketball Championships: Carroll, St. Mary’s Ryken win preliminary WCAC games
Carroll’s boys got 20 points from Kenny Cherry – including 13 in the final quarter – to beat Good Counsel 56-55. Carroll faces No. 1-seeded DeMatha on Friday.
St. Mary’s Ryken won the other boys preliminary game with a 72-56 victory over Bishop Ireton. St. Mary’s Ryken will play No. 2 Gonzaga. Carroll’s girls defeated Bishop Ireton 80-50 and will face No. 2 Good Counsel on Friday. St. Mary’s Ryken also advanced in the girls draw, defeating O’Connell 69-52, and will play No. 1 seed St. John’s on Friday.
