There will be a new boys champion crownded Saturday in the the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association basketball tournament, which plays its semifinals Thursday at Coolidge High School.
DCIAA Tournament Semifinals Get Underway Thursday At Coolidge
Roosevelt (23-5) knocked out two-time champion Ballou 61-56 in the quarterfinals this week and will play Springarn at 5 p.m. in Thursday’s semifinals. Springarn, whose alumni include Elgin Baylor and Dave Bing, is seeking its first title since 2002.
Eastern, the 2010 runner-up, plays home-standing Coolidge in the 9 p.m. game.
The DCIAA is Washington’s division for public schools. The DCIAA champion will play the winner of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) championship for private schools on March 7 at the Verizon Center. The WCAC champion has won that playoff nine of the past 10 seasons.
