In case you weren’t aware, Tony La Russa is an animal activist. The vegetarian and future Hall of Famer started the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF!) after a stray cat walked onto the Oakland Coliseum field in 1990. There are celebrities who attach their names to a cause because they have to pick something. This is not one of those cases. La Russa lives for this cause.
Tony La Russa has a cat named after Slash
Also, Tony La Russa has 17 cats.

But I don’t think anyone expected this. From the Wall Street Journal:
“Skye, Pearl, Slash—named after a rock ‘n’ roll guitarist—Sophia, Maggie, Jack—my daughter found him in the parking lot of a Jack in the Box—Stella, Sierra, Kachina, Lakota, Fergus, Dexter—he’s very precocious—Misha, Cammie, Eddie, Patchy, Pawnee.”
Those are the names of Tony La Russa’s 17 cats.
One of them is named Slash.
It’s hard to get more amazing than 17 cats, but Slash does just fine as something more amazing. Does the cat have markings that look like a top hat? Did he meow like the first 14 notes of the “November Rain” coda?
And the Wall Street Journal just sits there, unwilling to chase after the real story.
(Kidding, WSJ! And the story is worth a read. Some of those 17 cats were boarders, not permanent residents, by the way. But we’re pretty sure Slash is a full-timer.)
