Sunday afternoon, in just the 24th game in their history, the Hillsboro Hops played 19 innings. And everything came out okay in the end, as the home fans who stuck around finally saw a 5-4 Hops victory. I wasn’t there, but I did start listening on the radio in the 12th and went the rest of the way. My friend Rich Burk was there; he’s the Hops’ lead broadcaster, and had called nearly 1,900 games without going past the 17th inning ... until now.
19 innings in Hillsboro, but no Sammy
Rich has all the statistical highlights in his blog, topped by this one:
And finally, my favorite note from the entire day:
Hops outfielders recorded only two putouts in the 19 innings, both by center fielder Taylor Ratliff. Left fielder Jordan Parr fielded four Vancouver base hits, and Ratliff fielded two (their only other hit was a bunt single). Hops right fielder Zach Esquerra never touched the ball in 19 innings.

Looking at the box score, I’m just a little disappointed that nobody got hung with a Sammy.
