It was officially announced by track President and CEO Brandon Igdalsky today that Pocono Raceway will be the site of an IndyCar Series race for the second straight year.

After a successful return to the 2.5 mile “Tricky Triangle” in 2013, the IndyCar Series will be back once again.

The Pocono IndyCar weekend fueled by Sunoco in July was a turning point in the season for Scott Dixon and the entire Ganassi Racing operation, as all three cars came from the second half of the field and used strategy to finish the race sweeping the top three. The competition and the fan interest spoke for itself that the track was a viable option for open wheel racing.
The event will take place the same weekend as it did in 2013, immediately following the Independence Day holiday. As of today, it is currently the ninth race to be formally announced for the 2014 schedule. The Indy Lights Series will return as a support event as well.
Igdalsky announced his optimistic intentions for the future of the facility on the track’s web site.
“We are so excited about how our 2014 schedule is shaping up. We’re not only bringing back some of the best motorsports races in the country; we’re also adding great events like the Tough Mudder and the Warrior Dash. As we shift gears and give fans more events to enjoy, our goal is to turn Pocono Raceway from the motorsports venue it currently is into one of America’s premier sports and entertainment facilities.”
Both NASCAR Sprint Cup race weekends remain intact, and the addition of the mud run endurance events should bring in a new crop of interest for some cross-promotion.
Included in the announcement was that tickets will be on sale beginning October 1st, and those that attended the previous year are eligible for 20% off their tickets upon renewal by the end of the month.
