2014 IndyCar schedule set to be revealed on NBC championship preview show

IndyCar and the NBC Sports Network has planned an entire four-day’s stretch worth of programming leading into the season ending MAVTV 500 from Auto Club Speedway.

The complete 2014 IndyCar Series schedule will be unveiled during an hour long championship preview show set to air on Oct. 17 (this Thursday) on the NBC Sports Network. The program airs at 8 p.m. ET.

Mark Miles, the CEO of the IndyCar parent company will join NBC Sports’ Robin Miller to reveal the schedule that will include the return of the Milwaukee Mile, additional doubleheaders and the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis on May 10 on the reconfigured and repaved 14-turn Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Miller and Miles will also be joined by NBC’s Leigh Diffey and Kevin Lee to preview the championship battle that will come down to Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves this Saturday night at Auto Club Speedway. After leading the standings for much of the season, Castroneves trails Dixon by 26 points leading into the season-ending event.

It’s the eighth consecutive season that the championship has been decided in the season finale.

NBC Sports Network will have full coverage of the race weekend from Fontana, Calif. The lineup (check local listings; all times Eastern):

* Friday, Oct. 18 -- 7 p.m. MAVTV 500 qualifications

* Saturday, Oct. 18 -- 7 p.m. Lefty’s Kids Club 100 Firestone Indy Lights race

* Saturday, Oct. 19 -- 8 p.m. MAVTV 500 IZOD IndyCar Series race

The IndyCar Championship Celebration will be streamed live on www.indycar.com and the INDYCAR 13 app at 8:30 p.m. ET Oct. 20 from Universal Studios Hollywood.
