IndyCar drivers are amongst the bravest souls in motorsports. So it’s going to take more than a fake gun to rob JR Hildebrand as one would-be robber discovered on Monday night, according to a news report from Indianapolis Fox 59.

A man with a fake gun unsuccessfully attempted to rob IndyCar Series driver JR Hildebrand on Monday night in Downtown Indianapolis.

Hildebrand was out walking his dog around 8 p.m. on Monday night when a man approached him with a gun and said, “Drop it! Give it to me!”
The 2011 Indianapolis 500 runner-up turned around to see a man in a hooded sweatshirt with a dark-colored pistol, quickly decided the gun was a fake, and began to walk away, saying “Get lost. Get out of here,” according to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
The would-be assailant promptly ran away and no further incident occurred. Police searched the area but nothing was found.

Hildebrand competed in seven IndyCar Series races this season for Panther Racing and Barracuda Racing. Panther terminated its contract with him following his accident in the Indianapolis 500.
