Tony Kanaan adds TNT Energy Drink to Ganassi sponsorship package

The defending Indianapolis 500 winner will have additional sponsorship from TNT Energy Drink as he moves over to Chip Ganassi Racing Teams next season.

Chip Ganassi Racing Teams finalized on Tuesday the complete 2014 primary sponsorship package for defending Indianapolis 500 race winner Tony Kanaan with the announcement that TNT Energy Drink would appear the No. 8 Chevrolet next season.

TNT has been a partner of the popular Brazilian dating back to 2010 and joins NTT Data as primary partners for the next stage of Kanaan’s career as he is set to join Ganassi Racing for the first time in his storied tenure as an Indy car driver.

Ganassi and Kanaan announced a multi-year deal in September for Kanaan to drive the team’s fourth car with sponsorship from NTT Data, a leading global IT services provider.

“TNT first came onboard with me at the end of 2010 and they were the first ones to tell me I would stay in the IndyCar Series when I had no sponsor and no team to race,” Kanaan said during a press event. “So I’m more than excited to have them join Chip Ganassi Racing for this new chapter of my career.

“I’m looking forward to a strong season with them at Chip Ganassi Racing.”

Entering next season, Kanaan has amassed 276 starts, 16 wins, 15 poles and over 3,336 laps led.

Steve Lauletta, the president of Chip Ganassi Racing Teams sees the pairing with Kanaan as an opportunity to help grow TNT’s Brazilian brand to consumers in the United States -- as well as strengthen Kanaan’s IndyCar program.

“Bringing TNT Energy Drink into our partnership lineup further enhances Tony’s program for the No. 8 team heading into 2014,” Lauletta said. “They are one of Tony’s longtime sponsors and we’re excited they are continuing their relationship in the IndyCar Series with us. We look forward to helping them further grow their business both in the US and globally.”

Kanaan joins a powerful Ganassi team that also includes defending IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon, four-time Series champion Dario Franchitti and 2013 Mid-Ohio winner Charlie Kimball. Kanaan will be paired with Kimball out of the second Ganassi shop in Brownsburg, Ind.
