The 97th Indianapolis 500 will take place over Memorial Day weekend, but the order of cars must be determined first. That’s where “Pole Day” comes in. The top 24 positions will be determined on Saturday, including the coveted pole position. Here is the schedule for Saturday’s qualifying, which will be televised by NBC Sports Network (all times ET).

8-10 a.m.: Practice (not televised)
11 a.m. - 4 p.m.: First qualifying segment (to be televised by NBC Sports Network)
4:30-6 p.m.: The Fast 9 (NBC Sports Network)
Qualifying will also be live streamed by NBC Sports Live Extra for mobile devices.
The top nine qualifiers will return to the track for the Fast 9 to re-qualify and set the top nine spots, including the pole position. In 2012, Ryan Briscoe won the pole position on Pole Day and started the race from the number one position. He finished fifth.
Dario Franchitti, the winner of the 2012 race, began last year’s race in 16th position.
Qualifying doesn’t end on Saturday. The final nine spots will be determined during Bump Day, which is Sunday.
