One of the major victories of the IndyCar marketing department from over the past few years was its inclusion in the feature film “Turbo” by Dreamworks Animation.
2013 Indianapolis 500: Dreamworks Animation and IndyCar team up for “Turbo” film
Dario Franchitti and Mario Andretti were creative consultants for Dreamwork Animation’s latest production about a snail who aims to win the Indianapolis 500.


Before the film’s theatrical release on July 17th, “Turbo” is taking center stage this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The movie will be screened on Friday night at the Speedway as well ride shotgun with driver Townsend Bell in his seventh-career Indianapolis 500 start.
The car will feature the same paint scheme and crew uniforms as highlighted in the animated production, which was designed to bring the excitement and thrill of the Indianapolis 500 to a new market of children and families across the country.
Turbo is about a snail (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) who attains the power of super speed and attempts to win the Indianapolis 500. The movie features the voices of Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Paul Giamatti, Maya Rudolph, Dr. Ken Jeong and more.
The film was directed by David Soren off a screenplay developed by Soren, Darren Lemke and Robert Siegal. Defending Indianapolis 500 champion Dario Franchitti and motorsports legend Mario Andretti were creative consultants on the film, adding credibility and authenticity to the racing elements within the film.
