The Indy Lights Freedom 100 set an Indianapolis Motor Speedway record for the closest finish in the track’s history as Peter Dempsey grabbed the win in a photo finish. Dempsey came on late and edged out three challengers to take the race by 0.0026 seconds, the closest finish in IMS history.

Peter Dempsey won the Indy Lights Freedom 100 in one of the most amazing finishes ever.

Carlos Munoz led the most laps in the race and Sage Karam was pushing him for most of the last two laps, but Gabby Chaves then came on to make it three-wide in a wild final lap. Finally at the end, Dempsey came out of nowhere on the outside and barely picked up the win in a four-wide finish.

Chaves finished in second place, followed by Karam and Munoz fell to fourth place.
Dempsey won by inches, over 100 miles and from coming out of nowhere. The Indianapolis 500 is still to come on Sunday, but the craziest finish of the weekend and closest finish in speedway history is already in the books.
