Indy Lights: New car announced for 2015, manufacturer and tire supplier TBA

Just a few weeks after announcing its acquisition of Firestone Indy Lights in 2014, Andersen Promotions has decided to update the current Lights chassis for next season and introduce a brand new car for the 2015 season.

Indy Lights is looking to add new technology to the car but make available only those updates that will be compatible with the 2015 car to help accommodate the team’s budget constraints.

“In an ideal world, we would be debuting a new Firestone Indy Lights car next season,” Andersen Promotions CEO Dan Andersen said in a new release. “Unfortunately, with our very recent acquisition of the series, there isn’t enough time to accomplish this for 2014.

“Safety is paramount, and we also want a race car that is attractive and interesting to drivers worldwide. By enhancing the current chassis, bringing in new engine and tire partners to activate and support the series while also reducing costs and offering strong incentive programs to current and potential teams, we’ve given ourselves time to do the job properly”

Andersen says Indy Lights has received proposals from four different manufacturers who wish to develop the new car and that the decision would be made within 90 days. The process is being overseen by Tony Cotman, the former IndyCar VP of Competition and president/founder of NZR Consulting, a track design company.

In the coming months, Andersen Promotions will be issuing technical bulletins regarding updates to the current car for next season. Meanwhile, additional announcements about the Series’ new engine and tire partnerships will be announced prior to the finalization of the new chassis.

That car is expected to be completed and made available for testing by the midway point of next season.

In just a matter of weeks, Andersen has taken Indy Lights established a lot of momentum and intrigue for the top step of the IndyCar ladder system.
