Scott Dixon earned the pole for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Baltimore, clocking in with a fast time of 1:18.0838 on his final lap of Fast Six qualifying on Saturday afternoon on the streets of Baltimore.
Scott Dixon wins pole for the Grand Prix of Baltimore
Scott Dixon is looking to regain momentum one week after a pit penalty stalled his championship hopes. By winning the pole for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Baltimore, Dixon has both momentum and track position over his title rival, Helio Castroneves.

With the pole, he also picked up an important bonus point for his second pole of the season and will enter the race 38 points behind Helio Castroneves. The championship leader qualified seventh, giving Dixon a chance to get back in the championship battle after a controversial penalty at Sonoma cost him a chance to win and eat into Castroneves’ lead.
There are just four races remaining in the season.
“It’s good to bounce back after what happened last week,” Dixon said. “I feel so happy for Team Target, they did a hell of a good job. We had a sensor failure in Q2, which almost knocked us out.
“Big thanks to Honda for figuring it out and fixing that in Q3. The car’s been quick all week. I actually made a few mistakes on that lap and we were still able to pull it out. It’s a good place to start here at Baltimore. It’s going to be a tight race.”
Will Power qualified second and was .0333 of a second behind Dixon in the Fast Six and will make his sixth front-row start of the season one week after scoring his first win of the season at Sonoma. Simon Pagenaud, Justin Wilson and Josef Newgarden completed the top-five in qualifying.
