Brad Keselowski hopes Helio Castroneves returns Indy championship to Team Penske

Penske NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski hopes his IndyCar counterpart, Helio Castroneves closes out on his championship bid this season.

Roger Penske has amassed quite the stable of racing talent in both NASCAR and the IZOD IndyCar Series, most recently adding Juan Pablo Montoya to the latter.

Brad Keselowski is the defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion for Penske and is keeping close tabs on the IndyCar championship battle where his technical teammate Helio Castroneves leads Target Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon by 49 points with three races remaining.

While Penske’s NASCAR championship hopes took a big dent on Sunday with Joey Logano suffering a blown engine, Keselowski recognizes how big a title would be for both his owner and the driver.

“He’s been close a lot of times but come up short for a variety of reasons,” Keselowski told NBC Motorsports Talk Heon Sunday. “It would probably mean more to him than Roger. He’s won the Indy 500 and other things outside of racing, with ‘Dancing with the Stars.’

“It would be great to see him to get the championship accomplished, because it’s a different kind of accomplishment. You know it’s more about the season’s worth of work. I’d like to see him get that reward and see what it’s like to get that success from all his years’ worth of work.”

Castroneves has never won an IndyCar champion despite winning the Indianapolis 500 three times. Penske, a perennial contender throughout the history of the sport, hasn’t won the championship since 2006 -- with Sam Hornish Jr.

Hornish is currently leading the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship for the team, providing hopes that the team can win a stock car championship this season as well. Hornish leads Austin Dillon by xx points with eight races remaining.

Life is good for Penske Racing right now.
