Chip Ganassi looks towards the future in “Unplugged” video series.

In the first episode of “Ganassi Unplugged” on the “GanassiTV” YouTube channel, Target Chip Ganassi Racing team owner Chip Ganassi explains the importance of the car -- and racing -- as a form of freedom to young people as the sport evolves.

In the first of a months-long planned YouTube video series, IndyCar team owner Chip Ganassi will unload his opinions on a variety of subjects leading up to the official opening of the 2014 racing season -- the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway in January.

The first episode of “Ganassi Unplugged” has the 55-year-old former racer discussing the changing face of auto racing from the perspective of the drivers and fans alike. Ganassi explains how young people must be educated to see cars as an expression of freedom like it was in his youth as opposed to newfangled technology like tablets and smartphones.

“The entire face of the sport is going to change in terms of who is in the grandstands in the next 10 to 20 years, so it’s obvious we need to bring on new people if we have any future at all,” Ganassi says in the video.

Becoming interactive with the fans through social media websites like YouTube is an example of Ganassi’s long-term vision.

“Ganassi Unplugged is an innovative approach to digital content within the motorsports industry,” said Steve Lauletta, President of Chip Ganassi Racing Teams. “It is hard to find any other team owners, especially as involved as Chip, sharing their passion and personal views of the sport with the public.”

The first two Ganassi videos can be viewed below while the GanassiTV channel can be accessed here. Episode will be released every Wednesday at 3 p.m.
