Indy 500 2015 qualifying: Full results from Sunday

Scott Dixon won Indianapolis 500 qualifying Sunday after a lengthy delay. He’ll have Will Power and Simon Pagenaud nipping at his heels in the lineup next week.

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Scott Dixon will lead off the field of 33 at the Indianapolis 500 next week after winning pole position during qualifying Sunday with a four-lap average speed of 226.760 miles per hour. Dixon’s win came after a lengthy delay due to a crash early in the day. Ed Carpenter, last year’s pole sitter, hit the wall and his car went airborne, resulting in the third crash on the 2.5-mile course within the last week.

After the crash, IndyCar implemented changes to reduce speeds. Boost was removed, and drivers were mandated to use the same car setups they will be using on race day.

Dixon’s win was his second Indy 500 pole of his career. The last time he sat on the pole was in 2008, when he scored his first and only Indy 500 win of his career thus far. Carpenter finished 12th in qualifying after the accident. Finishing just behind Dixon were Will Power (226.350), Simon Pagenaud (226.145), Tony Kanaan (225.503) and Helio Castroneves (225.502).
