Filipe Luis potentially facing a month out with a torn quadricep

Filipe Luis could be facing a month out after an MRI scan showed a tear in his right quadriceps. The team has confirmed the injury but not the amount of time the defender will miss.

Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis could be facing a month out after suffering a tear in his right quadriceps. Los Colcheneros made the announcement today after Luis underwent an MRI scan to determine the extent of the damage. Luis was already carrying a hamstring problem, but this injury is said to be unrelated.

Just how long Luis will be out is still up in the air, but the estimate at the moment is one month. All that has been confirmed though at this point is that the defender will definitely miss Atletico’s match on Friday against Celta Vigo. If the injury is as severe as reported, he’s likely out until sometime in January.

The Brazilian fullback left Atleti’s 4-1 loss against Barcelona at halftime, adding to the disappointment for Diego Simeone side who were able to take an early lead against the Blaugrana thanks to Radamel Falcao, but ultimately unable stop the league leaders from scoring at will as the match progressed.
