    2012 Olympic Torch Relay: Olympic Flame To Visit London Landmarks On Penultimate Day

    The second-to-last day of the Olympic torch’s journey will come on Thursday, July 26. According to the official website of the 2012 London Olympics, the torch will pass through every London borough and will go past or through many of the most well-known and iconic landmarks in the famous city.

    175 Torchbearers will take up the flame at various points throughout the day as the torch travels from Camden, then traveling along the Regents Canal on a barge. The flame then begins passing by London landmarks, beginning with St. Paul’s Catherdral and Shakespeare’s Globe.

    Olympic Flame Makes First-Ever Visit To Dublin

    There’s a little more than six weeks until the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and the Olympic torch continues to make its way around the world. The torch made history this week when the relay passed through Ireland. It was the first time it had ever been to Dublin and crowds that went several deep lined the streets to get a glimpse. Pat Hickey, president of the Olympic Council of Ireland, emphasized the importance of having the torch move through the republic. Via Olympic.org:

    In what was a day of civic pride, Ireland Prime Minister Enda Kenney and President Michael D. Higgins came out to greet the relay through Dublin. After the visit in Dublin, the torch eventually traveled to Northern Ireland, where their government held a celebration in Belfast.
