Although some Olympic competitions have begun, the 2012 London Olympics officially begin with Friday’s Opening Ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony is typically one of the most notable events of the Olympic games, and 2012 figures to be no different. The Opening Ceremony will be produced and directed by Oscar winning movie director Danny Boyle. More than 15,000 people will participate in the opening and closing ceremonies, including an expected appearance by Paul McCartney.
In addition to performances, the Opening Ceremony will also feature the parade of athletes, the arrival of the Olympic Flame and the lighting of the cauldron, among other events.
The 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony will take place in London’s Olympic Stadium at 9 p.m. local time. It will air on tape delay in the United States beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be even further delayed for West Coast viewers, beginning at 7:30 PT. The Opening Ceremony will not be available via an online stream.
