Qualification for the women’s gymnastics finals at the London 2012 Olympics begins on Sunday, with every team scheduled to compete over a full day of action. The teams have been divided into five subdivisions. The first two sections have a total of 18 gymnasts, while the final three sections all have 20 gymnasts each.

The United States is part of the third section, which is the only subdivision that features four full teams of five gymnasts apiece. Sunday’s qualifying determines the eight teams who qualify for the team final, the 24 gymnasts who qualify for the all-around final and the eight gymnasts who qualify for the final in each apparatus. A total of 12 teams will attempt to qualify for the team final.
Qualifying begins with subdivision 1 at 4:30 a.m. ET, 9:30 a.m. local time from North Greenwich Arena. The United States and subdivision 3 begin their qualification at 9:45 a.m. ET, 2:45 p.m. local time. There is no live television coverage of gymnastics but, like all of the events, the competition will be streaming live on NBCOlympics.com. NBC will have coverage of gymnastics as part of their tape-delayed primetime coverage, which begins at 8 p.m. ET.
