Gay Olympians Results, Day 2: Rikke Skov Dominates, Megan Rapinoe Scores

Danish handball player Skov scores big in her Olympic debut. Lesbians of USA basketball and soccer also get big wins.

Seimone Augustus, USA, Basketball
Augustus contributed two points and four rebounds as the U.S. women's basketball team dominated Croatia, 81-56.

Natalie Cook, Australia, Beach Volleyball
Cook and her beach volleyball partner, Tamsin Hinchley, fell in their first match to the American team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. The Americans won gold in 2004 and 2008.

"Any time you face Nat Cook you're in for a battle," May-Treanor, 34, told reporters. "They're a great team. They pushed us to our limit."

Cook and Hinchley play again on Wednesday, against a team from the Czech Republic. Cook is the first Australian female athlete to participate in five Olympics. She has a bronze from 1996 and a gold from 2000, hosted in her home country.

Alexandra Lacrabère, France, Handball
Lacrabère scored three goals on five shots as France downed Norway, 24-23.

Mayssa Pessoa, Brazil, Handball
Pessoa's Brazilian team beat Croatia, 24-23. She did not score in the game.

Megan Rapinoe, USA, Soccer
Rapinoe scored the first goal of the match, and the only goal of the first half, in the 33rd minutes of Team USA's big 3-0 victory over Columbia. They're now 2-0 in Group G and should win the group easily.

Rikke Skov, Denmark, Handball
Skov was the star of her team's 21-18 victory over Sweden, scoring six goals on six shots.

Sweden women's soccer: Lisa Dahlkvist, Hedvig Lindahl, Jessica Lindstrom
The Swedes played Japan to a 0-0 tie. Dahlkvist started but was replaced in the 87th minute. Lindahl again played the entire game in goal.

Pre-Opening Ceremony Results

Megan Rapinoe, USA, Soccer
Rapinoe played the first 84 minutes of Team USA's 4-2 victory over France. The U.S. team was losing, 2-0, before running off four straight goals.

Sweden women's soccer: Lisa Dahlkvist, Hedvig Lindahl, Jessica Lindstrom
Lisa Dahlkvist scored a goal in the 20th minute on Wednesday as Sweden blew past South Africa, 4-1. Goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl played all 90 minutes in the win.
