Jordyn Wieber Eliminated From Olympics All-Around Competition

Jordyn Wieber, the reigning world all-around champion in women’s gymnastics, was eliminated from the event Sunday on just the second day of the 2012 London Olympics. Wieber was considered one of the heavy favorites in the sport’s premiere event.

On Sunday, the 17-year-old simply wasn’t as sharp as many have come to expect. Only two team members from each country can advance to the finals, and Wieber lost out to teammates Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman. Raisman surprisingly finished first in qualifying, scoring 60.391 points. Douglas was second at 0.126 back. Wieber was 0.359 behind Raisman.

Wieber left the arena in tears, but afterwards, she expressed her support for her teammates.
