Cadel Evans, the 2011 Tour de France winner, has withdrawn from the men’s Cycling Individual Time Trial at the 2012 Summer Olympics, it was announced on Sunday, citing fatigue. Evans finished seventh in this year’s Tour, which just eneded exactly one week ago.

Evans was expected to challenge Great Britain’s Bradley Wiggins, the 2012 Tour de France champion, for the gold medal in London. Wiggins won two of the three time trials during this year’s Tour.

The 35-year-old Australian Evans finished 80th in Saturday’s Olympics Road Race. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, he was fifth in the time trial and 15th in the road race. Evans’ withdrawal leaves Michael Rogers as the only Aussie to compete in the men’s Olympic time trial. The event is set for August 1 in London.
