Shooting, Men’s 10m Air Rifle: Alin George Moldoveanu Wins Gold For Romania
Alin George Mldoveanu won the first Romanian gold of the London Olympics on the final three shots of the men’s 10m air rifle competition.

Moldoveanu and Italy’s Niccolo Campriani each led after a 60-shot preliminary round, scoring 10s on 59 out of 60 shots to earn a just slightly less-than-perfect 599. Campriani jumped out to an early lead in the 10-shot final round, where competitors are graded not just on hitting a 10, but on precisely how close to the middle of the circle they shot. But Moldoveanu fought back to win the gold by besting Campriani over the competition’s final three shots, 702.1 to 701.5
India was hoping for gold in the event after Abhinav Bindra won the first individual gold medal in the history of the world’s second most populous nation, but he didn’t qualify for the final competition. However, Gagan Narang got India its first medal of the games.
Gold medal: Alin George Moldoveanu, Romania
Silver medal: Niccolo Campriani, Italy
Bronze medal: Gagan Narang, India
