The rest of Wednesday still has plenty of can’t-miss events, including Michael Phelps, the new all-time Olympic medal winner, back in the pool, the men’s individual all-around in gymnastics and the fastest men’s cyclists in the world.
What To Watch at the Olympics, Wednesday, Aug. 1:
Cycling - Men’s Individual Time Trial, 10 a.m. ET, NBC
Bradley Wiggins of Great Britain, one of the pre-race favorites, will be riding for gold and a bit of Olympic history: no cyclist has ever won an Olympic gold and the Tour de France in the same year. He’ll be challenged by defending champion Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland.
Fencing - Women’s Individual Sabre, gold medal match at 3:30 p.m. ET, MSNBC
MSNBC will have live coverage of the bronze (2:40 p.m.) and gold medal matches (3:30 p.m.) as U.S. flag bearer, and two-time defending champion in the event, Mariel Zagunis, goes for another win.
Women’s Beach Volleyball - Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh Jennings (USA) vs. Stefanie Schwaiger/Doris Schwaiger (AUS), 8 p.m. ET, NBC (live at 6 p.m. ET at NBC Live Extra)
The two-time defending gold medalists, Misty and Kerri, continue their preliminary round play, and will also look to continue their Olympic streak of having never dropped a match, let alone a set.
Gymnastics - Men’s Individual All-Around, 8 p.m. ET, NC (live at 11:30 a.m. ET at NBC LIve Extra)
After a disappointing fifth-place finish by the U.S. in the team competition, Danell Leyva and John Orozco will look to rebound in Wednesday’s individual all-around. Most recently, Leyva won the parallel bars at the 2011 World Championships.
Swimming - Men’s 100m Freestyle, 8 p.m. ET, NBC (live at 3:20 p.m. ET at NBC Live Extra)
Ryan Lochte and new Olympic medal record holder Michael Phelps are both back in the pool on Wednesday, competing in the 200m IM semifinals at 3:43 p.m. ET, but the must-see event is the men’s 100m. American Nathan Adrian qualified with the second-best time and will be going for gold against some of the fastest swimmers in the world.
