On Wednesday at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the finals were held in the men’s K-1 whitewater kayak event. Ten finalists competed in a whitewater slalom run, each angling for the best time. In the end, Italy was able to claim the gold, as Daniele Molmenti outpaced the competition with an excellent run.
Whitewater Men’s K-1 Gold Medal Event: Daniele Molmenti Claims Win For Italy
Daniele Molmenti of Italy claimed the gold medal in men’s whitewater K-1 kayak on Wednesday. It was the first Olympic gold medal for Molmenti.


Molmenti completed the course in a time of 93.43 seconds, finishing nearly a second and a half faster than the silver-medal winner, Vavrinec Hradilek of the Czech Republic, who finished in 94.78 seconds. Bringing home the bronze was Hannes Aigner of Germany, at 94.92 seconds.
This is Molmenti’s first Olympic gold. The 28-year-old canoer previously claimed gold in the K-1 World Championships in 2010 and at the European Championships in 2009, 2011 and 2012.
