What To Watch, Day 10: Men’s 400m Hurdles And Track Cycling

What To Watch on Day 10 at the Summer Olympics, including Team USA looking to sweep the men’s 400m hurdles (again), men’s vault in gymnastics and more cycling insanity on the track.

Day 10 at the 2012 Summer Olympics is a packed day of United States team action, with Team USA men’s basketball, women’s soccer and men’s volleyball (both indoor and beach) all in action on Monday. On the track at Olympic Stadium, medals will be decided in women’s shot put, pole vault and 3000m steeplechase, as well as the men’s 400m, but the must-see event should be the men’s 400m hurdles, where the Americans hope to win all three medals for the second-straight Olympics.

What To Watch at the 2012 Summer Olympics on Monday, August 6:

Track Cycling - Men’s Sprint, 12:43 p.m. ET (online)

At this point, go ahead and assume all track cycling is can’t miss, because it’s crazy. In sprint, riders go head-to-head, first one around the track wins. Which sounds easy enough, but strategy comes into play and that’s when you get to see competitors start extremely slowly before firing off for wild finish.

Men’s Beach Volleyball - Jacob Gibb/Sean Rosenthal, 2 p.m. ET, NBC

The American team of Gibb and Rosenthal (ranked No. 9 in the world) will face-off against Latvia’s duo of Janis Smedins and Martins Plavins (No. 18) in the quarterfinals, looking to accomplish what they couldn’t in Beijing and advance to the semis. Gibb and Rosenthal are the only U.S. representatives remaining in the tournament after the team of Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser, the defending gold medalists, were upset by Italy in the Round of 16.

Women’s Soccer Semifinals - Canada vs. United States, 2:45 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

The Americans’ quest for a third-straight gold, and fourth in the five Olympic Games that have included women’s soccer, continues with a semifinals showdown with our neighbors to the north. The winner advances to the gold medal final to meet either France or Japan.

Men's Volleyball - United States vs. Tunisia, 3 p.m. ET, NBC

The U.S., currently second in Group B behind Russia, should easily beat Tunisia to improve their record at London to 4-1 and better their position for the knockout round.

Men's Basketball - Team USA vs. Argentina, 5:15 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

Group play concludes on Monday with Team USA taking on Manu Ginobili and Argentina. Here's a breakdown of what a win means for the U.S. going into elimination play.

Men’s 400m Hurdles, 8 p.m. ET, NBC (LIVE at 3:45 p.m.)

The men’s 400m hurdles will likely be one of the heavily featured tape-delayed events on NBC Monday night, with three Americans among the eight finalists, including both Angelo Taylor and Kerron Clement, the defending gold and silver medalists. (Team USA swept the podium in this event in Beijing.)

Gymnastics - Men’s Vault, 8 p.m. ET, NBC (Complete results)

American Sam Mikulak, the individual all-around winner from the 2011 NCAA men’s gymnastics championship, competes for a medal in men’s vault, just a year after breaking both of his legs during the floor routine at a meet in Puerto Rico.
