The future has suddenly become very, very, very bleak for Geno Smith.
Daily News dooms Geno Smith by reusing Mark Sanchez headline
A STAR IS BORN. Which is great, until you look at the previous stars who have been born.
The Jets rookie had an amazing Monday night -- 16-for-20, three touchdowns, and a drive in the two-minute drill that allowed the Jets to take a 30-28 victory.
He was wholly deserving of the back page cover the Daily News gave him Tuesday morning:
A star is born! Geno Smith is a star!
However, we have terrible terrible news for Smith: Stars apparently die much quicker than we thought. The Daily News had used an almost identical cover before ... the day after Mark Sanchez's first game on Sept. 14, 2009. (Hat tip to Darren Rovell for pointing this out)
Of course, just four years after that star was born, he was standing on the sidelines fist-pumping while Geno Smith was leading that game-winning drive. Either the Jets are a supernova, or the Daily News should be a tad slower on their star birth announcements.
