A punch -- shove? push? slap? -- delivered (and deservedly so, mind you) while leading the Tour de France up one of cycling’s most difficult mountains? The future of U.S. cycling is in good hands.
Van Garderen’s efforts were unfortunately in vain -- Christophe Riblon overtook him in the final 2km for the win, giving France its first stage victory in the 100th edition of the Tour.
