Syracuse coach Scott Shafer is on a recruiting trip to Georgia. He’s also on Twitter playing on his “#hardnosed” catch phrase, calling out the city those recruits call home. [Update: These tweets have been deleted, and Shafer has sort of apologized.]
Syracuse head coach calls Atlanta ‘softnosed’ amid Snowpacalypse
Between this and whatever the latest thing Jim Boeheim said about North Carolina was, you have to wonder how in the hell the Orange ended up in a Southern conference.

2 inches of snow, city and airport shutdown ATL #softnosed
— Coach Scott Shafer (@Coach_Shafer) January 29, 2014 Shoveling nothing pic.twitter.com/e3C9ZSPwQY
— Coach Scott Shafer (@Coach_Shafer) January 29, 2014 That's fine, I guess. Our highways are disheveled parking lots coated in black ice because of our lack of New Yorker fortitude, not because of abominable civic planning. Granted.
But when did Syracuse become the arbiter of toughness?
you play in a dome RT @Coach_Shafer: 2 inches of snow, city and airport shutdown ATL #softnosed
— Spencer Hall (@edsbs) January 29, 2014 You lost to Georgia Tech 56-0 last year "@Coach_Shafer: 2 inches of snow, city and airport shutdown ATL #softnosed"
— Jamie (@chuckycrater) January 29, 2014 And while Shafer’s #hardnosed approach to recruiting isn’t exactly working ...
Syracuse, by the way, has only one four-star commit. New coach is not upgrading the talent level so far.
— SB Nation Recruiting (@SBNRecruiting) January 29, 2014 ... and this incident isn't going to help matters ...
So a coach from Syracuse is in Atlanta trying to recruit players and calls the city soft. Well good luck at next HS he stops by...
— Rusty Mansell (@Mansell247) January 29, 2014 ... at least people are talking about his team now.
Even Alabama people are mad at Scott Shafer. That's impressive.
— Sean Keeley (@NunesMagician) January 29, 2014 Elsewhere, Chipper Jones is the actual #hardnose here, Ohio State’s offensive coordinator was stuck in traffic for 17 hours, and, no, Mark Richt didn’t end up crashing with a four-star South Carolina recruit.
