Halfway across the river, the frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog’s back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs.“You fool!” croaked the frog, “Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that?”
The scorpion shrugged, and did a little jig on the drowning frog’s back.
“I could not help myself. It is my nature.”
The sad tale of Roger, the Jeopardy contestant who flew straight into the sun
Roger might have cost himself a million dollars with his penchant for True Daily Doubles, but at least he never sacrificed himself. And that makes him THE TRUE WINNER.

Yesterday, we told you the plight of Roger Craig, the Jeopardy contestant who fought his way to the Battle of the Decades championship by hitting Daily Doubles, turning them into True Daily Doubles, and winning, and how his trick cost him in the first half of the championship.
However, it was just one half of the championship. If Roger were to get off to a hot start today and once again hit a Daily Double, then double his score, he could be right back in the contest with a chance for a million dollars.
And sure enough, his lead grew.
And grew.
And grew.
And once again, he found himself in first place, and sure enough, HE HIT A DAILY DOUBLE.
LOOK AT THIS SWAG:
AND HELL YEAH, HE CHOSE TO MAKE IT A TRUE DAILY DOUBLE:
YEAH, BUDDY! IT WAS HAPPENING! IT WAS ACTUALLY HAPPENING. THE GREATEST COMEBACK IN TWO-DAY JEOPARDY CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY. EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT, LOOKIN IN MY MIRROR NOT A JACKER IN SIGHT.
And then Alex Trebek asked the question:
And then he was back to zero.
If Roger had been conservative, he would’ve had a damn good shot at winning: he got the correct answer in Final Jeopardy, and had been in first place both times he risked his entire load.
But if Roger had been conservative, he would not have been Roger. You don’t send home run hitters to the plate to hit singles. You don’t send home run hitters to the plate to hit doubles. You don’t send home run hitters to the plate to hit triples. You send them to the plate to hit home runs, and Roger is a home run hitter.
Here, he struck out. But although he only won $50,000 instead of a cool million, he’s our champion.
p.s. also, I like people named Roger.
