The Spelling Bee pronouncer accidentally read a sentence about Kelis

Sadly, it was “Milkshake” and not “Bossy.”

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The word was “feijoada,” a typical Brazilian stew. Because this word is rather difficult, it required a sentence. When asked to provide one, Spelling Bee Pronouncer Guy (his name is Jacques Bailly, and goodness knows what he does the other 363 days a year) gave a rather strange one:

It turns out this was the wrong sentence, although we never found out which word it was intended to be the sentence for. Somewhere out there, there was a Kelis-related word, and we never heard it.

Props to the Scripps Spelling Bee people for trying to say relevant, although “songs from 2004” might not be the best way to do that. Although we are writing about it, so maybe it is.
