This is exactly why catchers wear masks over their faces. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have faces anymore.
Here’s Jose Lobaton catching a baseball with his face
It doesn’t count as a catch, but it beats getting hit in the face.

Carlos Gomez got that foul tip lodged in Jose Lobaton’s mask well enough that it took the umpire a good five seconds to pry it loose from the backstop’s mask.
It would have taken a doctor slightly longer to dislodge it from Lobaton’s face, so there’s that.
Real talk, though, this should be a catch and a strikeout because of the count. The ball never touched the ground and Gomez’s mask secured it better than a glove. Please explain how it’s not a catch when that happens, Baseball.
