We all know the soccer World Cup that’s happening in Brazil this year but J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series has been hard at work writing about her own sporting event. That’s right, it’s Quidditch World Cup time and there’s a new story involving a 30-year-old Potter experiencing the wizarding world’s big event.
J.K. Rowling just released a new Harry Potter story about sports!
The soccer World Cup is winding down, but the quidditch is white-hot.

Richard Heathcote
James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
There’s all sorts of wonder here. Harry Potter has a new scar, presumably because he’s a bad ass. His wife Ginny is a sports writer covering the World Cup, while Brazil and Bulgaria are set to play in the Quidditch final -- because it’s nice to make Bulgaria good at something.
You can find the full piece here, but these are a few things that didn’t make the cut that we really feel should have.
- Ginny Potter appears on First Take and casts an unforgivable curse on Skip Bayless.
- Uruguay’s star player has a patronus shaped like Luis Suarez.
- Wizard Univision (which we wish was a thing) casts charms on themselves to allow them to scream “GOOOOOAL” for hours at a time.
- It turns out Clint Dempsey is an actual wizard.
- Draco Malfoy continues being a dick for refusing to re-name the professional team he owns, the Manchester Mudbloods.
