Man catches mammoth 84-pound snapper in the Gulf Coast
“I caught a fish! It was thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big!”

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
The fisherman’s tale is such a common occurrence that it’s become shorthand for saying “That story can’t be true.” Now that everyone has a camera in their pocket we can truly determine whether these fables are accurate, or we could if Photoshop didn’t exist.
According to WKRG this mammoth red snapper weighs in at over 84 pounds. By comparison the previous record was 52 pounds and was set back in 1988. The fish is astounding, but so is the fisherman -- he’s muscling up that beast like it’s nothing.
This could absolutely be fake and the fish is SO big that it’s almost comical. Darn it, we want to believe though.
