Phil Mickelson epitomized the idea of “out of the frying pan, into the fire” on Friday when he took a shot out of the beer deck at The Barclays in New Jersey. It looked good, at least for a little while -- until he missed the green and landed in a far bunker.
Sure, he could have taken a drop, but that’s just not Lefty. Here’s the entire sequence, including the bombed drive on this short par-4 that put the ball on the carpet in the first place (via PGA Tour).
Unfortunately the follow-up wasn’t him chipping it back into the hospitality area, because that would have been perfect. In Phil’s defense, he was really lodged in that seating area:
