Kaden Abshire was set to make the trip with his family to see the Orioles play the Yankees on Thursday, which was organized by the Make-A-Wish foundation, but Davis wasn't there. His suspension meant he could not attend the game, and was unable to meet with Kaden.
According to the Virginian-Pilot, it was all he wanted.
During a party at a frozen yogurt shop in Chesapeake, he shyly sat at a table surrounded by friends and family and talked about his coming trip to Baltimore and the Orioles’ first baseman, Chris Davis.
“I just want to meet Crush Davis, and that’s it,” he said to cheers.
The young life of this little boy has already been touched by tragedy, first being born with the rare Holt-Oram syndrome, a skeletal disorder, and then losing his mother, who was killed last year in a murder-for-hire.
"He took it fine," said Princess Hepner, Kaden's grandmother. She said he got to meet Left Fielder Nelson Cruz instead and will be taking home a bat signed by Cruz and a ball signed by Davis.
"Kaden knew who Nelson Cruz was before we did," Hepner said with a laugh. "He's happy."
Here’s hoping Davis realizes the ramifications of his suspension and does something to make this right.
